Dublin Bus strike and using taxis

Now that the bus strike is on, anybody who regularly uses DB should band together with others who travel to the same destination at a bus stop and hail a taxi and share the cost to ONE destination ( to save disputes and messers )

If you say regularily travel from Stillorgan to Stephens Green - ask the others at the bus stop if they want to share a taxi to say Elverys on Stephens Green - say the taxi fare for 4 is €10, then it's €2.50 each at the end of the journey.

All this is pre-supposing that -
    1) Commuters will actually talk to each other at the bus stop :o
    2) That taxi drivers won't act the mick and make a problem out of it giving change etc

If regular commuters formed 'travel cells' at their bus stop and hailed a taxi to a common destination it might actually be cheaper and quicker than using DB ;)

Another fact is that taxi fares haven't gone up since 2008, whereas DB etc. have had yearly increases for ??:mad:

Is there not a stumbling to this plan in that people aren't too likely to congregate around the bus stop when no buses are running ?

Plus dont forget its €7.45 for 4 people in a taxi before they move

Is there any legal issue with a "pickup at the stop" system? Aren't the taxi drivers who cruise the Aircoach stops doing so illegally for example?

Yes Taxi driver's are at that all the time and will do anything to get that fare like run lights or cross 3 lanes and park in the middle of the road and also block bus stops.

If you get the train to Coolmine station, it's about a ten minute walk from there

There is no legal issue as long as the taxi is hailed rather than touting for business

Did I say anywhere that touting was legal?, the question was asked about the legality of stopping to pick up passengers at bus stops, the legality is yes it's allowed as long as they are hailed
