Just wondering has anyone completed a Sports & Rec FETAC level 5 course through Fas? I'm interested in applying but I'm just wondering what is covered on the course and what potential jobs you may get with this qualification or what course you would need to complete after?

I did it through the FAS/FAI Women's Soccer Course in Clondalkin.

    Modules included:

    Anatomy and Physiology
    Special Populations
    Client Screening
    Sports and Recreation
    Communications
    Business
    Health Related Fitness
    Exercise and Fitness

One or two of them you might not be doing as they were ITEC gym instruction modules but I can't remember which ones they were! :o

I honestly don't know what job you can get without having a gym instruction cert to go with it to be honest.

Precisely! Unless you wish to use the fetac level 5 certificate to get into third level, and there are many great third level options you need to do it in conjunction with a professional gym instruction qualification. On its own fetac level 5 wont make you insurable to work in a gym or set up your own exercise classes. It might help you get a job as a receptionist in a gym.

They can be great courses depending on their design and tutors but it definitely needs to be done in conjunction with a gym instruction qualification unless 3rd level is your end goal.

I am coming towards the end of the Fetac/QQi level 5 sports and recreation course now. With this course I will be qualified to work in a leisure centre, in a pool or in a gym. This course can also be used to move onto other courses which is what i intend on doing.
In the course we cover the following modules: Exercise and fitness, sports and recreation studies, communications, work experience, shallow water pool life guarding skills, rugby coaching, leisure facility operations, nutrition, anatomy and physiology and occupational first aid.
I have found the course interesting and very informative and would highly recommend it if your interested in studying sports or working in the sports industry.

I did the same course and I found it very interesting an I want to now progress on and do more in sports in college and then hopefully get a job in the sports industry. At the start I didn't even like rugby but since learning how to play it and the rules I have began to really enjoy it.

Reminding FETAC tutors to get your students to use the test forum for their assignments. Otherwise, posts will be deleted.

Everything Mallon_8 said was spot on ! The course is very helpful in helping you form an idea of what you want to do in the sports and recreation field. At first I was sure I wanted to pursue nutritional studies as a career but quickly realised my interests are with personal training.

I also completed this course and I found it to be a very enjoyable course with it not only helping me with my career choices but also making friends who will last a lifetime!

So, are you working in the area now?

    What are your hours like?

    What's the pay like?

Please say a little more about it. If yours was a 'test' FETAC assignment, it will be deleted. Please tell your tutor that.

And are you working as a personal trainer now?
