Does anyone know why you some online applicants for jobs require you to give a PPS no? If you state the you are an Irish resident or legal allowed to work that is clearly enough to show they can legally can employee you.

By all means refuse to give them your PPS number on principle, but they might think you are difficult.

They want people to include their PPS number so they know the applicant can legally work in Ireland.

When applying to bank of Ireland grad programme I had to fill in a PPS number. Not just me but all applicants. maybe is prove that you are an irish citizen.

Having a PPS number is no proof of citizenship or indeed eligibility to work. For e.g you could get a PPS number and not have a work permit.

It's purely for their administrative convenience: they will have to collect it eventually if they hire you, so they may as well do it at the point you are applying and typing things into the computer for them.

Giving a PPS number doesn't prove anything, except that you have one to give.
