What's it like to be elderly in Ireland?

I know this is probably the wrong place for it, but it's quite an interesting question.

As in, how do people treat you when you're getting the bus, out at the shop, up at the pub, etc.

And does anybody have any stories that relate to this?

PS: I'm leaving the term elderly vague :P

Tbh, I'd say I come across as condescending to elderly folk. Eg, taking a quick step back to let them on the bus before me, or offering them a seat, so on.

OK being middle aged at 30 one is old at 60. As my name suggests I drive a red Nissan, I get respect wherever I go and I'm old.

Wanna stir up the question a little bit, what do you want in Monday Indo? I can say anything you want and you can quote my name as it's inoffensive, except to Ford drivers and VW driver sand

Free travel, medical card, TV licence and other perks plus a reasonable state pension.

    Hardly ****e.

Pensioners are probably the only large group of Irish society who have not been adversely affected by the recession.

Generally a feeling of being non-young, I suppose.

When I go to the pub with the young wans and have to get a taxi home pissed after 3 pints. Very embarrassing, esp. after telling a lot of war stories that I've forgotten about but they remember.

Hey kid! It's the only one in town, if I remember correctly.
