    Advice needed

I have a rooftop UHF aerial with two connections from it. Through one connection I am receiving saorview, the other connection has nothing on the end of it. Can I receive the free British channels if I put a satellite connection at the end of the blank one and then buy a free sat box?

The clue is there in that one word.

You will need a satellite dish or alternatively if you are close to the border you may pick up the Freeview channels from NI via the aerial although unlikely as the aerials are different for Saorview and Freeview

So this is 2 cables together at the same point? Or 2 different points? And you know both come from the aerial?

2 seperate cables with 2 different points. One has the normal coax which i just connected to the back of the tv to get saorview. Thats why i thought the other might be capable of getting the free channels. Both come from the aerial.

Post #2 would apply then. I was assuming you wanted a satellite receiver for the same tv that currently has Saorview, so thought the 2 cables must be located pretty close together. This would be a bit pointless if both are from the aerial but, presumably it's for 2 different tv locations in the same room?

I would like a satellite receiver for the same TV, what do you mean when you say thought the 2 cables must be located pretty close together? Excuse my ignorance in this area.

Wouldn't you want the 'satellite' cable as close to the tv as possible, rather than have to extend it from the other side of the room or from another room?

Just thought you might have been motivated to ask about using one of the cables for a satellite receiver because both cables were located together, with 1 of them appearing to be redundant.
