Got this car serviced 12 months ago and a new time belt was recommended. Have yet to follow that advice. Car has lowish mileage (60,000). Is a new time belt something that I should get sorted as part of this years annual service? Car running fine.

car probably not due by milage but is due by time. Change it.

What roughly should I expect to pay for new time belt?

A timing belt is made of rubber which perishes over time as well as mileage. They have a set time or mileage change interval. Your really dicing with faith if you don't heed the recommendation of replacing it.

A new timing belt and water pump are a lot cheaper than a new or rebuilt engine if it snaps on you. VW dealers were doing special offers on timing chain and water pump changes not so long ago (think it was around €400 but don't hold me to that). An independent garage may charge a bit less.
