Without Tubridy, 2fm wouldn't have any "star" broadcaster. Although his ratings are bad,he still is the most listened too presenter on 2fm.

Wonder how many of his listeners haven't figured out that Gerry Ryan is dead yet? Would they listen to any DJ in that slot rather than specific DJs?

In the spirit of 'Never let a good crisis go to waste' you might have said now was the times to transform 2fm into the BBC Radio 2-type easy listening station that many have long advocated as its destiny. The problem is that ideally Tubridy would have been the linchpin of that brave new world...

2FM weren't doing any better with star presenters. If they're going back to the 15-34 market they're up against stations with no stars either so with music, coverage, national presence and quality, lively, entertaining presenters they can save money and increase listenership. Most 15-34 year olds would prefer the likes of Andy McCloskey or any of the other regional presenters to Tubridy.

They can keep him. He had his chances on grown-up Radio, he failed miserably. And his FF membership card is no longer a pass to the big bucks.

I always enjoyed his Radio 1 show. Pat Kenny's departure gives RTE a perfect excuse to move Tubridy back to his old slot, without having to admit that his move to 2FM has been a failure.
