eBay free listings rarer and rarer

I've noticed a distinct lack of free listing weekends, they used to be every second or third week. Last for for ebay.ie was 22-23rd June, ebay.co.uk was 26th July, and prior to that, we didn't always get free listings when the uk did :(

Anyone know if they've given up doing them in Ireland?

Most of my stuff previously sold to overseas buyers so might shift to Gumtree.

    It is what it's.

Yet I notice eBay are allowing more free photos for the month of August :
From 1 August 2013, you’ll be able to upload up to 12 pictures to each of your listings free of charge on eBay.ie.

Picture Pack and Supersize will also become free from 1 August until 31 August 2013 when they will no longer be available. You’ll automatically get the benefits of Supersize free of charge for any listings with at least one picture of 500 pixels

Indeed... I don't see anymore of those free listings on eBay.ie... I used to sell my stuff only during those promotions. What a pity. I hope they bring that back.

Did you see that new announcement for eBay.co.uk... "Final value fees will be charged based on the combined value of the item listed plus postage. For example, if an item sells for £20 with postage cost of £4, the final value fee will be charged based on the combined value of £24. This will not apply if the listing offers collection only."
    Doesn't sound good...

Will seriously discourage people from selling abroad but there's an obvious reason for it - 99c items with 11.99 postage are very common

Like Lehmann, I too only used to list unwanted items for sale on eBay.ie, when it was free to do so.

As it is now 2 months since the last free listing weekend on the eBay Ireland site, I have decided to save the HTML text to all the listings of my unsold items.... otherwise they will no longer be available to simply 're-list' in quick time after 60 days pass by since their previous listing ended. Instead, I would have to spend quite a lot of time re-designing each listing, in order to help keep the visitor's attention on my item(s) for sale.

Free listing this weekend at eBay.co.uk...... but not at eBay.ie. Disappointing to say the least.

Ebay .uk had free listings on 7/8 sept and 12th sept and now again on 21/22 sept..thats 3 times in approx 2 weeks. I have emailed them and pointed out that ebay.ie didnt have free listings for 3 months
They replied with what is like a computer generated answer ..but did not explain the reason ..i have contacted them on at least 4 separate occasions .but its like talking to the wall..they just don't care

I also contacted the chat on ebay about this 3 times already since July and basically I said they seem to value their uk customers over the Irish ones they got all upset and told me that isn't true and that they would pass it onto the relevant department which of course has done absolutely nothing.

Anyway I have given up on ebay now because I don't know if people are aware but the 10% fee they take from the selling price now also includes the shipping the price.

So for example if you sold a A DVD boxset on ebay 6 months ago for 20euro and you charged 10euro postage you would only pay 2 euro in fees but now for that same auction you will pay 3euro in fees it might not seem like a lot but if you sell expensive items it all adds up then not to mention the 5% fee paypal add on, on top of that even though ebay and paypal are owned by the same company.

Didn't see this when I first made my post but this has now been implemented on ebay.ie as well since September 1st.

That's because the ebay fees are far too high they charge 10% and then another 5% for paypal (which is also run by ebay). They also force new sellers to use paypal for this reason and at the end of it all if something goes wrong 99% of the time they side with the buyer even though the seller is the one who is paying all the fees.

Yep, the final value fee includes the final price + the postage, which is illogical and unfair, especially when there is an expensive international postage. I think many people will be discouraged to sell their stuff now.. eBay will lose money, oh well, I really hope they do!!

Ya ..the new seller fees on postage for genuine ebayers who don't abuse the shipping cost are unfair..however it catches the guys who charge high postage but low cost items . I recently see a winning bid for 1 cent but 15 euro post..normally no ebay fee on the 1 cent.but now he gets caught for 1.50 on the postage ..and rightly so

I hope they lose money as well but I doubt they will no other auction website is even close to being as big as ebay

I understand that but that's not the reason ebay are doing it they are doing out of greed so they can make more money. If you end up being the winning buyer on an auction like you mentioned all you have to do is complain to ebay about it and they will cancel the transaction it has been like that for years. Both paypal and ebay already make millions every month.

If the ebay fees were reasonable very few of these type of auctions would exist but instead of lowering the fees they increase them. All this new policy will do is just make people increase their postage prices

So is it true to say , we don't need .ie free weekends then . - only problem is that eBay don't notify us when UK is free listing

I got fed up waiting to get a fee free weekend from Ebay, so about a month ago,I tried Done Deal. had 2 bikes to sell..SOLD both in first weekend, €200..and only cost me TWO euro to advertise. I have sold several articles since..Fantastic site..I am now forgetting about Ebay..waste of time and a waste of money.out of the €450 I sold,I would have given Ebay/pay pal, €67.50 !!in fees, It cost me €7..on Done Deal..

I had enough and just set up a uk accpunt with a uk address I have. its a real case of both kicking the 2nd class paddies and ****ting on your own doorstep. there's a 4 day free listing on ebay.co.uk from tomorrow btw

afaik if you try to list on the .co.uk site but are registered on the .ue sitw, you still won't get the free listing.

with no free weekends coming up on Ebay,I started to use Done Deal,I am amazed how much I have sold, and only costing me ONE euro to place the ad,and no postage..buyer collected each time,I am forgetting about Ebay,it too costly, taking 15% out of whatever you sell. definitely going to stay with Done Deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 BoboDub

are you on cimmission from done deal or work for them???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 kidderminister

NO I don't work for Done Deal and I DONT get commission from them..I was just pointing out a good site to sell stuff.. O K..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72 ✭✭Lehmann

I can't understand why free listings are available for other countries, like ebay.co.uk and ebay.fr, but not for Irish ebay... very strange..

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 173 ✭✭stevie1122

Free listings for UK sellers from the 25th of December to the 5th of January and of course still nothing for ebay.ie as if people don't have enough reasons already to hate ebay / paypal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 kidderminister

I gave up on eBay months ago, went to Gumtree & Done Deal,Fantastic sales, who would want to pay eBay commission on the postage! trying to make even more profit..Bye Bye..Ebay.

Free listings again on the UK site :(

I've all but given up on EBay. Sold something on it just before Xmas but only because I got no interest in the item on Adverts.ie. I wanted to put a 400 euro reserve on it but that would have cost me nearly 20 euro alone! Because I got payed in Dollars, PayPal took 25 euros off me. And that's before I pay the insertion fees and commission to EBay.

    did you list on ebay.com?

i often put items for sale there now because it is always free listings and they are up until sold

i often put reserve prices either and i am not charged for it, maybe it applies to certain sections only as i only list clothing items

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,293 ✭✭✭Fuzzy Clam

Can you list on .com if your account is with .ie?
I used to be on .com but in order to sell I had to get my a/c moved to .ie because I couldn't register my debit card (no credit card) on .com.
The fee for the reserve might be because it was electronic goods I was selling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭j4vier

i list on .com and my account is set up on ie

i have been listing clothes only recently maybe thats why it is different on the reserve

Yup, I use .co.uk almost exclusively now. If you're using .com, there are some different policies you might need to be aware of, but the UK site is pretty much identical to ours.

If I can post here, does anyone know when there's another free lsitings time? Anyway amazon is far superior to ebay

Their hasn't been a free listing in Ireland for nearly two years now so I think it's safe to say it's gone.

Also for anyone asking to list on the .com site if your not based in the US I think you need a business account and you have to have a UK address to list on the .co.uk site so Irish users can't list there sometimes it slips through the cracks and you can by mistake but if ebay get wind of it they will remove your auction.
