I'll hopefully be heading off to NUI Maynooth this year in September (assuming I get the points) and was just wondering is there any considerations an openly gay student should take into consideration? (when booking accommodation, etc.)

    NUIM is famously LGBT friendly.

Joking aside, it actually is a very liberal campus. There's a huge, very active LGBTQ society. As for other forms of accommodation, I'm afraid I have no experiential knowledge!

This isn't the 60's. We've moved past this (mostly). Your an accepted member of society now \o/

I knew quite a few non-hetero lads and ladies when I was there. Most just had a room in a shared house. The only ones who ever had any hassle were the ones who wouldn't wash up or leave the bins out!

    You'll be grand. Enjoy college.

I saw that door! I thought it meant 'men and men-wearing-capes'. I thought it was odd. Makes more sense now...

Not at all, you will be fine! The LGBTQ society in Maynooth is great and very active too! Here's the Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/155427511307917/ and the Facebook page:

Look out for events etc - sure to see you around, enjoy :)

    Where is that door?

Edit: Read the link and see it's in the library. Can't say I've noticed it.

NUIM is super open and relaxed. It's known as the 'Pink Palace'.

Have also heard it called 'Gaynooth' on occasion, so I think that says all you need to know! :P
