toyota mpv - verso/corolla/avensis boot size?

    Hi.

    I'm thinking of buying toyota mpv (can't decide what engine too - i'm putting +-20k miles annually but i'm bit affraid of diesels which can generate big bill if go wrong and in my price range car will be rather oldish as i have around 5k so my first thought was 1.6 petrol).
    Couldn't find straight answer to this:
    Is any of them bigger/smarter than others (on some pictures it looks like you can remove seats and on some it looks like you can only fold them flat).
    Avensis verso, corolla verso and verso - are they same size or not?

    Verso is the current version of the corolla verso which was launched in 2004 as a 7 seater.
    Its got seats that fold into the floor and slide backwards/forwards.
    The seats can't be removed completely and there's pretty much no boot space with the rearmost seats up.
    Verso is a little bit bigger than corolla verso but not a lot.


    The Avensis Verso is an older design. Minimum engine size is 2.0
    Seats are removable and you can configure it as 6 or 7 seats.
    The spare wheel is under the passenger floor so that means the inside of the boot goes all the way down to the bottom of the bumper. Handy if you've got a buggy etc.
    safety is nothing special on these though as they're an older design than the corolla verso.

    Thank you. Do you think i'm right assuming that +- 8yrs old d4d should have (no matter what odo says) +- 200k miles?
    And i think it would be rather unwise to buy it as a cost cutting measure. I'm rather thinking of petrol engine (bigger odds of finding low mileage one) and maybe lpg installation if running costs will be to high (my last car was 2001 almera 1.8 auto and it draw from my pocket from 20 (few hundred miles journey max speed of around 80kmh) -30euro (towing boat + 3 passengers + fishing gear etc) which translates to 7-12? l/100km- i wouldn't like to buy anything more expensive to run).

    There'd really be nowhere to put an LPG tank on the corolla verso.

    Do you do much mileage?

    In the last 16 months around 42k miles and i may do bit more from now on (using my own vehicle at work i guess it will add good few hundred miles monthly on the top of my average 2.6k). But more i read about modern diesels the more afraid i become (injectors, flywheels and dpf...). PS i intend to use it as 2-4 seater and at first glance wanted to buy a commercial vehicle (caddy/dispatch/transit connect). Ps most of my driving is work (compensated by employer buy the less i spend on fuel and repairs the more i keep) and fishing (we splitting fuel costs by number of pasangers).
    I intended to put tank in spare wheel or sacrifice around 1/3 of cargo space - hence question of its size.

    no i don't but what i need is big size cargo area(no way to take enough fishing gear for 2-3 people in almera if you not just spinning - 2 decent seats are taking 3/4 of boot). and since all commercials are diesels only reasonable choice seems to be mpv (and Japanese since i liked reliability of almera a lot - my previous car - passat 1.6 was nothing but troubles..)
    And if i could remove 1 or 2 seats i will have as much room as i want. + i wanted aircon if possible.
    I'm open to suggestions but have little time to buy.

    If it's boot space you need, why not consider an estate rather than an MPV.

    Maybe one of those Kia Sedona crew cab MPVs would be more suitable to your needs:

    Not sure I can recommend one though, they have a Merc diesel engine but tax is high as I'm not sure you can tax them commercially anymore. Engine has to come out too to change the timing belt on them which is expensive.

    kia looks fine but 2.9? will it be any more cheaper to drive around than 1.8 petrol?

    PS i made mistake (counted NCT as age of vehicle but firs one was valid for 2 yeras) so my average mileage is lower (but again over last 6 months it was 1800-2700miles).

    No brainier a LPG car will always be cheapest to run if you do large mileage

    However LPG can burn the valves mostly exhaust and there is tables that show which cars are effected the most (worth looking up the relevant makes of cars )
    However valves are not that expensive to replace .


    Small petrol engines ahve more power than larger diesel engines non turbo or even turbo

    Ball park BHP wise 1.6 petrol will match ~1.8 turbo diesel and ~2200cc non turbo diesel but the petrol will have to rev a lot more to give the BHP . With towing loads petrol will eat more fuel for sure (not a big issue for occasional towing ) but for lots of heavy towing work hard to beat big diesels


    Like you Everyone say why would you need a MPV
    I am single guy rarely any passengers but tend to bring the kitchen sink with me fill the car up for many long weekend trips so looking to buy cousins 2005 150k 2000cc petrol 7 seater Hyndia Trajet ( some call it tragedy why i don't know I suppose it does have ugly tragic look to it but bogs of room ) and convert it to 5 seater LPG as well . I don't drive fast so it suit me .Fed up filling the big roof box on the saloon car and the small trailer so more easy to stuff it all into one big box car.

    I am too cheap skate to buy the camper vans so its tenting every time and the normal car will do ~90% of what camper cars do for lot less money so MPV for me is the way to go .
