Buying a New Car

    Hi all,

I am looking to buy a brand new 132 car. I'm pretty sure which car I want and know the shop price of the model and spec I want.

What I would like to know is, generally speaking, what is the best percentage reduction I could expect to get off the retail price.

What areas should I focus on to get the price down e.g.
free delivery, cost of road tax etc

Also, what things should I try push to get included e.g. full tank of fuel, extended warranty, free servicing etc

All advice appreciated. I'm ok at haggling but not massively familiar with the motor trade so want to brush up in advance!

    Thanks

The discount depends on the car, extras and if you are trading in. There's no rule on that. Standard specs and popular colours might be in stock ready to go so you could push hard on these.

    What car is it?

Push for the usual mats/flaps/tank of juice and service or two.

7% would be a good target . You can get an idea of potential discounts over in the UK on the UK site drive the deal. Discounts are probably similar here. I would personally wait until 2014 as you will be hit hard on depreciation if buying half way through. News cars loose enough not to loose an extra 2 grand in the first year.

Cheers guys. Should the 132 plates minimise some of the big losses on the car value come 2014?

    No.
Anyway unless you're actually selling the car in 2014 its not really an issue. Cars depreciate so if you're looking at it from a financial perspective it'll never make sense.

Dunno if this helps op but I bought a black comfort line passat straight last jan. was quoted 28400 fron hogans in limerick, followed by 27500 from pierces in Tipp. Dealt with pierces for 27200 in the end. Harvey's in thurles would have sold me a beige one without Bluetooth for 26900.

I was given the standard vw new car offer, absolutely no extras!

Best option is to call in to any of them that's practical for you. They literally deal with phone callers like tyre kickers, so you must call in in person. Then you can play them off against each other.
