Deferring Repeats for Year

Hi, I'm repeating 3 exams and and was wondering can I defer the repeats to next year as I've done no preparation?

If I do them and don't do as well as I hope and not get my 2.1 and repeat the year where I just do the three modules, will I still receive an honours degree?

    You're in final year, yes?

You can probably - it depends on the course and the modules - repeat final year and still get an Honours degree, but you can only repeat final year once.

AFAIK you either repeat 3 modules or repeat the year. you can't do both.

Your best bet is to conform this from the exams office.

You need to ring the exams office first thing Monday morning. Repeats are starting soon so you need to make sure you can now.

    http://examinations.nuim.ie/marks_standards.shtml

The following rules apply to final year:
    a) Students may repeat modules (once only) up to 15 credits (of the 60 available) in the autumn supplemental examination or in the examinations in the subsequent year and still retain the entitlement to an honours award, which includes the contribution from the repeated modules.

    And

    b) Students may reject their degree result and elect to repeat their entire degree examination (once only) in a subsequent year. Honours may be awarded in such cases.

    or

    c) Students pursuing joint honours or major-minor programmes may retain their result in one subject and repeat the other subject (once only) in its entirety, in a subsequent year, to try to improve their grade in the second subject. In such cases honours will also be classified in the Degree qualification.
What that And says to me is that you can repeat your 15 credits, and if you're not happy you still have the option of repeating the whole year and retaining an honours qualification. But whatever the doc says, I think it'd still be a good idea to ring up examinations and ask them.

    Marks:
    First Class Honours 70-100%
Second Class Honours Grade I 60-69%
Second Class Honours Grade II 50-59%
    Third Class Honours 45-49%
    Pass 40-44%

Seems you can claim honours for anything above 45? I have no idea what use a third class "honours" degree is to an employer.

Very little it would seem, friends of mine had a lot of trouble getting jobs with 2.2 degrees.
