Are the clouds very unusual or spectacular at the moment? Can someone explain please? I don't have any knowledge of this but it seems to be very interesting

They often are. In the heatwave period we had a low cap on our weather system, this meant that clouds could not rise high in the sky and thunderstorms could not develop [easily].

At the moment the cap is lifted and we have good land heat so the clouds that develop can rise very, very high in the sky and produce spectacular formations and merge to form cells and thunderstorms.

Additionally we have low intensity storms or instability swooshing things around and mixing it up with the convective [rising clouds] bringing their own formations and storm systems all of which combine to make a very interesting period for weather watching.

I have a spectacular little timelapse from last Sunday taken in my backyard that shows a bit of what I am saying. Many of the vids and IMO especially the timelapse vids are amazing, with this in mind and your current interest, have fun checking them out. :D
