Voice-mail

I hate voice-mail. Everything about it.

First, there's that stupid 'tape' icon that appears on your phone telling you to dial 171. That's usually followed up by a text message to say "you have one new voice mail".

And then another. "Hi, you missed one call from me, to call back, blah blah blah".

Then there's the actual listening to it. Half of the time, it's guaranteed to be some goon going "hello, hello [in the background], no he's not there"

Or 30 seconds of dead air and or a rattling noise. Even if they are genuine, it's such hassle listening to them.

Furthermore, in a work context, people seem to get so anal about it.

"Someone left you a voice-mail there". Fuck off.

I hate voice-mail and everyone who leaves me one. I never leave people voice-mails. Usually just text them if I get no answer.

So what about you? Do you ignore voice-mails like I do? Ever get any unexpected messages? Oh do tell!

Do you hate voice-mail? 48 votes

    Everyone hates voice mail.

It'd be nice though if the networks would implement visual voicemail like they have on the iPhone (and possibly other devices) in the US

Hate going to check voicemail only to hear the sound of hanging up.

I bloody well hate when I get a missed call and two messages. I know one is a voicemail but I'm secretly thinking that the other is that nice girl I like but it's always that 'You've missed one call from: ' message. Why do I need a second notification I've missed a call?

Sometimes leaving a voicemail is appropriate. Sometimes not.

    Loathe it myself.

Got three new phones a few months ago for the family, went online and deleted everything on our phones related to voice mail.
No call waiting, no engaged so leave a message, no call back, nothing.
If it is that important they will ring back or text a message.

They still show missed call and the number so we call ring back if we feel like it's necessary.

I have to have it on my work phone and grimace every time I have to access voice mail.

Never had voicemail and never will. If you ring me and i can't answer, text me after that you rang, simple.

I admit i'm one of those that always hangs up at the beep when a call goes straight thru to vmx, just can't bring myself to talk to an invisible man at the other end, very uncomfortable!

I get the odd voice mails on Skype but I don't mind them because all you have to do to hear it is click a button.

But I feckin hated them on the phone, they made you dial 171 and put in a password or something just to hear it. It was so annoying. Just leave a bloody text message

I never leave voicemails (I just can't ever record them right!). In my experience, phone don't check them. I'd be better off texting or emailing them and get a response faster. I have one, but I couldn't be bothered to check it. If it was important they would have rang me again.

If you do have a voicemail though, make sure you change the password from the default.

I used get extremely annoyed with voicemail myself so I re-recorded my 'greeting'. It goes along the lines of "Hello there, nice to hear from you. As you have guessed I am not at the phone at the moment. It appears there's something more important than your call in my life at the moment. Regardless this call is appreciated. If you think you're important enough for my life then please leave a message. Do you dare? Okay bye bye"

I recorded it after watching Fight Club when I was going through a rough period. It has worked to a degree. Either people realise they're not worthy of my time or they think I'm cracked in the head. I like to think it's both.

Neither my father nor myself use voicemail. Having to leave a message is infuriating, some people have too long of greetings!

I'm one of those gobsh*tes that panic and leave a long blabbering message :o

Hi, its me, just ringing to see if you were free tonight. Fancied a few drinks in town. I asked a few others but they're broke. I suppose we could have drinks in my apartment...I kind of want to go out though. So yeah....let me know. I don't really mind either way. You're probably in work, Just let me know. It's me by the way...Yeah...I'll hang up now. I'll text you anyway..this was pointless. *beep*

    I'm a spa.

Had a big, long, obnoxious scream as my answering message back in the day.

People gradually learnt to stop leaving me messages and eventually stopped calling altogether. Worked like a charm.

Gran wasn't fond of it, mind.

Look for hullomail in the app stores.

Pretty sure it's available for every format. Its visual voicemail and pretty good it is too.

Something very handy I've noticed with it too BTW......it unhides private numbers...... So someone is calling you from a 'private number'? Just don't answer or reject the call (don't answer it though) and the app displays the number of the call you 'missed'.

I've felt very smug ringing folks mobiles right back who withheld their numbers...

It's me by the way...Yeah...I'll hang up now. Right, ok. Bye, bye, bye bye......Bye. *beep*

D'ya know what else I hate? That womans voice what calls out the details about the message. There is a mini-pause between each word, not quiet worthy of a comma.
You hAVE..TWO NEW msmgggs. To play the msg, press 4, to delete it, press 5. To have the message translated into..ARABIC...press 12. For Tagalog, press eleventy. To end this torturous, neverending list of options on what to do with your message, please smash your head against wall repeatedly...BEEP

    I hate you voice-mail lady.

I never check my voicemail not that I ever receive any. I don't leave voicemails to others either.

90% of voicemails I get aren't even messages, it's just the sound of the person hanging up.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

At work I hate people who email in saying they urgently need to speak to me right now, life or death, end of the world yada yada, then leave a mobile number with no voicemail. Because obviously I have nothing better to do than keep ringing over and over on the off chance that they answer. Nice to finally meet you all.
