    Hi,

Anyone know of any clubs south side which offer both judo and boxing/thai boxing?

I want to mix up a grapple and a strike and have a little experience in thai boxing and judo, I tried BJJ, but can't say I enjoyed it as much as I did in judo.

The only place I can see that does both is wild geese in the city, but it's a hassle to get to for me.

There are a couple of clubs that offer each sport on it's own but it gets expensive joining 2 clubs and the nights of classes are often the same so it's impossible to schedule.

and most mma gyms only seem to offer BJJ/thai boxing.

I enjoyed the thai boxing as well as western boxing so I am happy with either, but I would defo like to be doing judo not BJJ to compliment it. If there are any clubs which do this?

As far as I know, WG is the only place on the Southside that offers what you're looking for. Even then the two classes are completely independent, so you're not going to get integrated striking+grappling.

I think a lot of the MT+BJJ places also do wrestling so if you're worried about not getting enough stand up grappling training, the situation might not be as bad as you think.

    Thanks,

not really worried about intergrating them as an MMA system etc.
I just fancied learnig judo, plus I liked doing thaiboxing. Id be happy going to 2 different clubs if the cost and schedule was possible.

I might give BJJ another try but so far i'm not getting into it.

you say WG is the only one southside, do you know of a northside one?
maybe I can take a look, they might be easier for me to get to than gettiing into the city early evenings.

No idea about Judo clubs but plenty of the Thai clubs around Dublin offer drop in rates. Here are the Thai clubs in town that I'd be happy to recommend.

Bridgestone Thai - City center north (Beside Smithfield)

    Dublin Thai - North Dublin

    Chupasart - Dublin center south

Warriors - South Dublin (near Dun Laoghaire)

    Lionheart - Dublin 1

    Wild Geese - Pearse St

How many clubs have you tried? It could be that you just didn't click with the instructor.

I'm not sure. Off the top of my head, Coolmine have several styles in addition to judo. No Thai boxing, but maybe one of their other classes might interest you. I think they charge by the class though, so you probably won't make any savings over training at two separate clubs.

You could also try Andy Ryan's place. It's mainly BJJ/MMA, but I think he does some judo classes now, and AKAIK he's a 4th dan in judo.

2 clubs, 3 instructors. all were fine, actually really nice and friendly. 1 was an mma gym and the other was a BJJ gym.

I dont think i really enjoy the full on ground aspect. I enjoyed the trips and throws of judo when I did it. Was a while ago since I went to a judo class.

I know BJJ is really popular cos of ufc etc, but im surprised to find out no mma gyms offer judo.

I think there's kind of a cultural thing to it. In judo clubs it's generally considered weird to want to do anything other than judo. In BJJ gyms it's considered weird to not want to at least try some MMA.
