I am going for a third cut which is closed now with two weeks and expect to cut the end of September. one of those fields is after getting slow to grow and has a few docks in it and I have it ear marked to reseed. when is the latest I could reseed this field. im in cork on dry land. I could bale this field earlier than the rest in order to get the grass seed in

If its a dry feild, and you don't suffer bad from frost then reseed away after its cut, I reseeded in early Oct last year, and probably will leave it till sept/early oct this year again. August reseeds here by us run the risk of a drought!

17th of Oct is the latest I have successfully reseeded, depends on the year.

are you planning on direct seeding? or are you gonna plough? you'll have to give a run of spray too to kill off everything, so you'll need a bit of cover to come for that to take. i'd say cut it earlier to get the regrowth then straight out with the sprayer and then wait for the cover to die off then in your drill.

lad round these parts threw some hayseed out with his winter barly and it turned out fine the followign year. cut the barly in july and the cows were in grazing in august

Mid Oct. the most important thing are ground conditions. Frost will do no harm at after it germinates as sun is weak and that's what kills plants. Frosty night followed by clear sunny day, that's why I wouldn't do in Feb or March.

plan is to spray off 10-14 days before cutting . cut the silage. pour slurry out on it and plough. one pass of the land leveller, lime, and one pass of the power harrow, then spread and roll

If you can get a disc harrow it will save a few days especially the spring loaded disc harrows. Disc after slurry put out granlime and seed. If you are using ordinary lime still use a bag of granlime to the acre. This would be less weather dependant and about a week faster. If weather is warm at the time you may be able to cut silage 5-7 days after spraying. Put in 2-3 stone of oats/acre as well cattle will take 3-4 turns to graze out and it will slightly bulk up grazing for the spring. Disadvantage with reseeding late is that it may be impossible to get in with a post emergence spray.

Had a field i reseeded about 3 years ago it ran down to a bog so ploughing was out, "we always plough reseed round this area" so sprayed it of and and got the contractor in to give it a few run of the disc woeful mess nothing but sods, leaving me wondering how you guys manage??
