Gardai and Customs and Revenue collect tens of millions of euros worth of nice "stuff", ranging from tobacco of all description, alcohol, drugs, anything brought into the country by "improper channels", counterfeits etc. etc. etc., and of course a large quantity of cash.

Apart from a bit of cash ending up in a few naughty Guards back pockets, where does all the rest of it end all up?

The stuff that gets bagged and logged probably gets destroyed.

Unless it is Balbriggan or Malahide in which case it gets bagged, logged, placed in a safe and then gets "mislaid".

All the counterfeit stuff gets destroyed, the cigs, drugs and drink are kept as evidence, at the end of case the court gives a destruction order. Cash if needed for evidence is kept, then order given by court to forfeit to the State. If its alleged that cash is proceeds of criminal activity there has to be a court hearing in relation to that matter nd cash either handed back to person or given to state.

If cars and bikes and boats seized in relation to drugs, these are auctioned off. http://www.sail.ie/wp222/?p=401

I've heard that the Gardai sometimes frighten kids with seized weed. Like if a teenager was caught smoking weed by his parents the parents can get a Gardai in to give him a stern lecture. The Guard brings along a load of weed with him and forces the teenager to eat it. The teen then feels really really ill and viola he swears he'll never smoke weed again.

I've heard that there's a Zombie Garda in a pit in the Phoenix park. They feed him on kids who bunk off school.

Is there a public record of any seizures and destruction, speaking of tobacco and alcohol?

Never mind that! Does anyone know where and when they burn the weed and where would be the best downwind location to erm "observe" the destruction of this terrible illicit drug? :D

Oh it gets burned alright, after it gets mislaid tho.

Oh sure, burn a few cardboard boxes in your backyard, that's illegal. Burn a load of seized drugs/cigs and that's perfectly fine :D

(Disclaimer: They probably don't use fire)

I agree. Still the amount of Guards going around wearing Nikee tops and Daiads shoes is suspicious. :D

Yes ever order would be an order of the court.

Human nature would dictate that pockets get stuffed on occasion I suppose but every job has a perk or two.

The Guards take the drink and have parties.

Guard around my estate use to give us fireworks that the guards had confiscated from people coming back down South from Jonesborough market in South Armagh.

Use to drop a big bag full to my auld fella every night before Halloween, pretty sure he still does as my nieces and nephews are also in the home house at halloween and Dad always has loads of fireworks

Phoenix Park depot. Passed through on a work thing a few times. The smell of weed out in the yard is mad.

Isn't there a garda auction? As far as I know in the UK a lot of stuff just gets auctioned off for next to nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,057 ✭✭✭✭Zebra3

When I was a kid a guarda sergent on the road used to have a massive fireworks display in his back garden every Hallo'een using loads of stuff that had been confiscated during the previous month.

Nothing like a bit of open corruption, eh?

I don't believe they would be auctioning drugs or weapons.

Would be hilarious if they did. :D

    Auctioneer: "Next lotno.5689 AK 47"
Buyer: "Is that the gun or weed guard?"
