    Hey Folks.

So I really want to start playing some golf. Pitch and Put and some Par 3 courses.

As I'm unemployed at the minute, I'm looking to start with the bare minimum. What clubs would I need to play in both these environments.

    Thanks for any help.

For Pitch and Putt all you need is a Sandwedge and Putter as P & P holes are no longer than 60-70 yards at most. To play Par 3 which is a bit longer I would add another few clubs which would allow to hit further distances. These could be a 9 Iron, 7 Iron and either a 5 Iron or Hybrid for the longest par 3 holes.

Depends on the course and of course how long you hit your shots.

Best of luck and have fun

If you are only starting don't spend big. So good deals on adverts for clubs and if Bricks and Mortar are more to your liking then Heatons Sportsworld would be cheap.

Ah thanks Macker sound advice there.
Maybe I'll just get a SandWedge and Putter first. Play some P & P get a feel for it. And by Bricks and Mortar do you mean cheaper models?

Sorry by Bricks and Mortar I just meant a shop to go into and buy the clubs as opposed to online etailers.

Now I read it I don't know how I missed that. Thanks again. I think I'll pick up a Sandwedge and head to the driving range and knock out a few baskets before I hit the P&P

Pitch and Putt is a great sport and will always help with your short game if you ever get into Par 3 or full size Golf. Membership should be reasonable if you get into it. Where are u based ? What courses are nearby ?

+1 for heatons, u can get a full set of dunlop clubs for 130 in there or driver n wedge for about 30, they'll do u rightly kicking off.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but I'm also keen to start playing some golf.

Would people recommend taking a few lessons first or just go out and crack some balls?

I was in the same position as you a few weeks ago and I took some beginner lessons in a local club. 4 lessons, in a group of 6-10 people, cost €30 in total, plus 9 holes at the end of it to go through putting and bunker shots.

I found them great to be honest as I had been out on the range smacking a few balls previously but, there was no consistency to my shots. Now I have a structure and some guidelines to work with and all I have to do now is practice....

Pitch and Putt is also good for the short game and putting practice.

    Best of luck with it!
