    hi
    i have a fiber glass septic tank and percolation area built 9 yrs ago it has become a problem over the last two years in that;
    (1) the water from the percolation area is causing the drain on the garden boundary to stink.
    (2) the tank has changed shape and the lid no longer fits, leaving it very dangerous to children.
    (3) The pump has now just expired due to diaphragm failure.

    when i asked the company they said the lid design has been improved since i purchased my tank they also advised me my insurance company covered would cover the cost of replacing the tank which i thought was a bit cheeky anyone else have any similar issues with septic tanks. its a nightmare especially when your broke.

    Check the overall warranty on the tank. Has it been serviced properly since its installation? Is there a maintenance and repair contract in place? That should be a relatively new system and shouldn't be near the end of its life just yet, the percolation area could be a different story.

    You likely have a major issue with the percolation area. It was possibly installed with a pipe direct to the drain as an overflow - very wrong btw. It is possible that all effluent flows are no going to this drain if your percolation has become blocked.
    In relation to the tank, you are wasting your time chasing the company imo. They will claim improper installation has caused the warping of the tank and it will not be worth the hassle.
    I would have the pump repaired - commom enough failure and then buy a bigger cover with frame, have the frame bolted down to the tank and sealed and you are good to go. This should work as long as there is a flat surface to work with.

    yea i know your right on following up on tank warranty still very disappointing i was thinking of getting a concrete tank from Durkins in Carrick on Shannon as they are a much stronger job, at least this may solve the problem once and for all and of course re do percolation.
    i m a carpenter and was also wondering if anyone had shuttered one of these tanks themselves or is this a crazy idea the tank is about 2500 dropped in place from Durkins.
