I was thinking about using the Irish version of my name on all my official documents, the problem is I’m not sure if I should make both my first and surname Irish or just my surname. I am thinking people who know me by my first name now, will find it weird if I am called by a different name

Will you be getting people to call you the irish version aswell as using it on paper .
I have a very irish name and most people change it to the engrish version when they get older but I dont see the need to change .
Why do you want to change it now ?

Only wonder why you want to change your name now? Surely your name is unique to you (whether it's Irish or Sanskrit!)
Do you also want to change the name your friends call you? Are you asking them to call you something different?
Shouldn't think it would be a problem if they are your buddies....it'll probably just take a bit of time for you all.

    Go n-éirí an t-ádh leat!

If your surname is Blagowitz or Suomilainen that might just be a problem.

Are we to assume that your present surname is an Anglicised version of an origianl Irish family name?

Yeah it is an anglicised version of an Irish name. But I'm just not sure how I can start phasing out the use of the English version and replacing it with the Irish, especially on official document's.

Hi, The handyest way I can think of is, if you have a driving licence, ask them to change the name to the Irish version when it comes up for renewal. It shouldent be any problem. With this it is an easy enough process to change everything else.

Just be sure to be consistant, it could cause a probelm if you cant remember which version of your name you are supposed to use in a given situation.

Thanks, my renewal for my licence is coming up in about a month.
