Hi, my son told me his netbook had become really slow recently, I had a look at it and sure enough it seemed very sluggish compared to what it used to be like and compared to another similar spec netbook we have.
I ran Adaware, CCleaner and his AV program and they came back with nothing.
I had a look at the task manager and there seems to be an awful lot of processes running away in the background and I haven't a clue what many of them are, also when its just sitting there doing nothing the CPU seems to be quite busy (50%) as does the memory usage.

    Any thoughts or suggestions...?

    Thaks.

Simplest fix? Reformat it. Hook a usb DVD drive, and re-install the OS. Basically clean it out completely.

The antivirus he's using will affect speed. For slower PC's I prefer avast. For XP, Comodo, as you can get a same brand firewall free with them too.

Chrome is a terrible browser for slower PC's, if that's on, remove it in favour for firefox.

    Run Malware Bytes.
    Do a disk defragment.
