In the last 6 months two farmers have mentioned to me that the generic options in their opinion are a waste of money. One was talking about animec , the other was talking about bimection. One of the farmers in question ,I would rate very highly, really on top of his game. Both reckon ,with ivomec you get what you pay for. Those of you that use generic on a regular basis what do you think, are these farmers talking nonsence or is there something in their observations

Also very curious about this as there is quite a price difference in a 500ml bottle of say ivomec vs bimectin

What I've heard: the generics control nearly all of the same things but lads say that ivomec has a better carrier which affects how its absorbed and how long lasting the effect is

what I thought: at over a hundred less I'll take my chances (based mostly on my feelings on things like generic aspirins etc - admittedly no way to make a decision on this

what I now think: dont know what to think tbh : injected one lot of finishers with generic before let out to grass - no coughing etc - never got around to other lot - cant see any difference between the two groups.

injected yearlings with same - two small groups very little evidence of coughing etc - one large group lots now developing a significant cough will need to be injected again - considering ivomec.........again this could be nothing to do with the effectiveness of the generic vs ivomec but my gut (whic again is no way to make a decision i suppose) tells me I wouldnt be injecting again if they had got ivomec in the first place

    interested to hear responses
