A director at the Smithsonian Institution wants to stock a new addition to the national museum complex with a controversial piece of recent US history — Trayvon Martin’s hoodie.

Lonnie Bunch said that once the legal case plays out, he’d love to have the gray hooded sweat shirt the unarmed 17-year-old was wearing the night he was fatally shot by George Zimmerman in Sanford, Fla.

Martin’s hoodie would provide an opportunity to further the discussion about race in America, Bunch said.
    Source

What.the.actual.fuck? An opportunity to talk about a race issue that DIDN'T EXIST!
“Are we in a postracial age?” Bunch asked, dreaming about how the hoodie might help shape perceptions. Then he answered the question: “This trial [of George Zimmerman in Martin’s death] says, ‘No.’ ”

Because idiots like you take neutral events and turn them into racial issues!

    GAAAAAHHHH!!!!

Am I alone in feeling this frustration?

Yes, where the black people were so racist that they wanted an innocent man to pay for crimes he didn't commit because of the color of his skin.

which was brown, but for the sake of some good race baiting tv coverage they decided to call white.

Ive heard a lot of bollix lately, but this takes the biscuit.

“Because it’s such a symbol, it would allow you to talk about race in the age of Obama.”

Honestly couldn't give a fcuk about it. The only thing I have an issue with is how these idiotic parochial matters are considered worthy of the worlds attention.

Except he wasn't innocent and he did commit a crime or do you forget the fact that he gunned down a minor? The only reason he got off was Florida's stand your ground law

Indeed he 'got off' because he didn't commit a crime according to the laws of the state he lives in. So basically he was innocent.

    Things I learned today:

You are not innocent when acquitted.

Legal acquittal is not necessarily the same as actual innocence. It might just be that they didn't have enough evidence to convict.

Yeah, the dead body was pretty much the evidence.

No-one will know what motivated him to fire, but the jury found themselves unable to say beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was murder.

That's a close enough definition of innocence in my book.

He is innocent in the same sense as Bertie is innocent, the system failed.

On topic wtf are these guys at wanting to use such an item as a museum display, did TMZ take them over.

Huh? Bertie never went to trial. (more's the pity)

You can only presume Bertie's guilt, Zimmerman was tried in a court of law; you may disagree with the verdict but the result is not the same.

True but don't forget the Mahon Tribunal, might not have been a trial but it sure was an investigation into Bertie, not really a point to discuss at this place and time but a damn good comparison all the same.

Not even close. Murder trial and a political investigation? Not even same ball park.

Maybe you're right, rules and laws exist for a reason but then there is also common sense. This guy shot an unarmed kid for reasons none of us here will ever really know, he should have been punished but got off on a technicality there for the system failed. Whether it was for racial reasons or the guy was just a gun nut or whatever, Who cares we can't change it and it has been discussed to death already on here and in many other places. The real point really is why the **** would they want to put such an item on display, because it's America.

When people look back at how stupid Florida's law system was it will be the symbol.

You can get a gun and follow someone, call the police, be told to stop following him, keep following him, get into a confrontation with the person and at any point shoot the person and kill them because you get scared.

Also Ireland doesn't have the death penalty. Different set of consequences at play.

They want to put it on display so that it will bring in visitors, which means more revenue.

They probably bought it from the Martins for a decent price, taken out of their government funding, supplied by US tax payers, so this institution can try to tell Americans who they are.

He wasn't told to stop following him. He was told he didn't need to.

It won't make a difference for revenue - the Smithsonian is free.

    Yes I know its free.

But the cafeteria and gift shop is not.

And they have to submit visitor numbers when they apply for funding or look for sponsorship.

So yes it does make a difference to revenue.

Innocent until proven guilty. Not proven guilty. Therefore..

The only bull**** is Florida's law system. The post was paraphrased but not very wrong in its summation. Explain to me so what you think was incorrect.

do you have anything to back up your opinion other than "trayvon was black" ?

if a white 17 year old had been sitting on top of an asian man and was banging his head into the concrete footpath, would you have been as upset at the white guy being shot in self defense?
