I'm putting this here and I hope someone can help.
Ok, I know this girl and she's from South America, she's a very smart, attractive woman. She's here learning English but had very good jobs in her home country.
She only has a visa to cover the length she is here to study but during her time here she has enjoyed it so much and see's so much opportunity here that she wants to stay longer. That's financial opportunity and the opportunity to travel around Europe.

Well in order for her to get another visa she needs a job, she may have to go home and then come back here again. She told me the other day that she had two interviews today (Thursday) and she was very excited about them.
I met her today and asked her how she got on. She looked upset as she shaked her head. I asked what was wrong and she just mumbled, 'it was a crazy interview.' This girl is always smiling but that was no where to be seen.

She then told me a little bit about what happened, she went into the interview and it all started really well. She felt the guy that was interviewing her liked what she had to say but after a few minutes things started to change.
The interviewer started suggesting things to my friend, not coming out and saying it but hinting. Like what would you do to get this job? She was fighting back tears as she told me this.

She said she couldn't come up with the words to shout at this person as English is not her first language and she was shocked with what was happening. She just got up and walked out.
She also said that outside there was only woman waiting to be interviewed. Now, she has the name of the company and stuff on her computer but doesn't remember it but it's in Dublin city and not too far from the spiral she says.

Tomorrow she is going to print off the company add and give it to me, honestly there's only one thing I want to do. That's find this guy and sort him out. I wonder how many women he has done this to and has he actually got away with this in the past.
If I pass it on to the Gardaí will they do anything? She has no proof this happened and there's no one to back up her story. Will he just get away with it if I go to the Guards?

What I want to know is what should I do and is there any other women here that this has happened to? If we can get more than one story then we'll definitely go to the Gardaí.
I will know what this place is called and where it is tomorrow but it's near the Spiral on one of the streets off O'Connell street. Thanks for reading.

So the guy wanting sexual favours in return for a job didn't bother you? Only that part?

What she saying is true, she has no reason to lie. There's no way she'll set foot in there again.

If the guards are already interested in him for some reason, then they may be interested to get their hands on any material they can. So it is worth giving it to them, in case. Ideally find someone who knows a guard who will give you a clue about how to report it to. Just turning up at reception isn't a good idea if you want to be taken seriously for something like this.

That said, I'm not even 100% that what he's doing is illegal.

Only interviewing / employing women is - but can you actually prove it - he could say it was just accidental that this was who was waiting.

Sexual favours being demanded once someone is already in a job would be harassment, and so illegal. But if it was agreed beforehand, as part of the recruitment process ... I'm just not sure it's clearcut.

Now be very clear, I'm not saying it's right. Just that sometimes using legal means to get vengance for something can be harder than you think.

Your friend may get most satisfaction from telling other women she knows not to go near the place, either as a potential employee or customer. Maybe try to use social media (eg a Facebook campaign) - but be cunning to find ways it can be done without being shut down.

And now I'm putting on my moderator hat for a second to add:

If you want to discuss the company name, please do it by PM only, NOT on the forum.

I know this seems harsh - but if someone sued boards.ie for defamation, the problem could be the legal bills / hassle, rather than whether it's true or not.

She could contact the h.r. department and tell them about her interview experience but I don't see the sense in doing that, there is no way of proving that it happened, this guy will only lie and say that he was being professional and that her English was poor so she didn't understand correctly what was being said. She did well to get out of there as quickly as possible.

Yes, I know the difficulties in proving any of this. That's why I think it's pointless going to the Gardaí. Don't worry I wont name the company here. I want to find out is this a regurlar thing for this lad. I will probably contact the hr departement as well depending on if his company is big or just a set up kind of thing. I just don't know yet but will find out later.
Good ideas about the facebook campaign as well. Thanks.

You would want to be very sure of your facts or you could find yourself in court for defamation. So thread warily before getting yourself involved.

This, since you have no proof starting a facebook or any other sort of public campaign could land you in serious trouble and it isn't worth it, get your friend to ring up the HR department and share her experience with them and then move on and forget about it.

The same type of thing is common in America with latinos. The employer generally assume they are illegal and therefore wouldnt report them to the police as they could be deported. So its not just some person in Ireland doing it.

I just think your friends needs to move on. It could happen to anyone in any country in the world. Saying the companies name isnt going to help in anyway, as employees generally dont reflect a companies values or morals. However a call to the companies manager wouldnt do any harm.
