Car insurance no claims - 2 year?

I just sold my car. Using missus car. Am named driver on her policy / covered comprehensively. So that's ok.

I was talking to the insurance guy today re refund as I only started this policy 4 months ago.
I asked him could he give me a letter stating that I had full no claims discount and no claims / etc up until I stopped policy.
He mentioned that after 2 years all no claims discount recirds die and your back to square one again.

I have 30 years no accident - full bonus etc and this set me back a bit thinking that all this experience will count for nothing in two years time .

My other option is in a year time I become registered owner of my wife's car and insure it in my name and put her on as a named driver. Then I kept my record " alive" but the car will then have had two owners ! Needlessly.

The only concern I have really is I can retire soon and I have truck and bus etc ... Cpc etc done so that if a driving job came along I could take it ... But I am sure that to be put on a companies policy the previous experience etc will be an issue , if I did that in 2 years. Time I would have no ... No claims bonus built up it anything .... Any advice appreciatd

    Paddy

Theres a thread about this on the bottom of the first page that might be worth reading.

As far as I know when it comes to a married couple both can insure a car that is registered in either partners name, so just alternate it each year to keep both NCB alive. Obviously do the math though; if its cheaper for one of you to insure than the other (which it shouldnt be any more) then it might work out cheaper in the long run just to keep the cheapest policy going.

Oh that's very interesting she bought it last month and put it in her name only I wasn't sure if I would sell mine... I wonder can you put both names as registered owner? As that is the case now as its a family car.. Must google it!
    Thanks for your advice

I think the option to put joint ownership on the registration cert has been gone for a good few years now.

You can't put both names on registration cert, but you can insure a car which is registered in your wife's name. Most insurers won't mind if it's in your name or your wife's name. Just confirm before you buy a policy.

Also in regards driving professionally, I strongly doubt your private NCB would have any effect on company's policy.
When my employer added me to the policy, all they needed was to see my licence. Insurer is not even bothered with CPC.

The first question I was always asked when looking for insurance is the car mine ? Registered in my name? Didn't know that this was the case

Cpc will be very important from 11 th sept it will be demanded by cops and rsa
.. And linked to insurance in the not too distant future .. Thks

Have you ever seen any RSA patrol on the road?
Have you ever seen a cop which would know what CPC is?

And why actually something would drastically change from 11th of September?
(I know it's deadline for Bus drivers who obtained CPC automatically in 2008, to complete 5 modules, but I can't see this date changing anything). Truck drivers have 1 more year anyway to complete their 5 modules.

    That's probably up to insurers.
I was suprised myself that our insurer didn't care about cpc - but that's a fact.

yes i have seen rsa many times on the road. if you notice a larger type checkpoint with HGV s in particular pulled in ..that could be one.

again the cops who specialise in traffic...i think they are called corps ..dedicated to traffic are aware of cpc...not being demanded till after 11 sept...when law will start re cpc in full swing ..as all acquired right have to be licenced from then...cpc cards will issue to all....

And why actually something would drastically change from 11th of September?
I am not aware of anything drastic happening from 11 sept....except the eu law is being implemented...
you answered you own question here...except rsa have now decided that truck,,do not have the extra year ..all mods to be completed by this sept

it is a fact now....but very soon cpc will be required ...and will looked for by insurance companies...
