How come there's never been one? We've had other international TV series like Dragons Den and the Apprentice.

    Ireland is too small.

Within an hour of everyone getting into the house all the contestants would talking about mutual friends, It goes against the Big Brother concept.

And it is an expensive Production for a population of Ireland's size, no station would make be able to make it work.

Plus with Irish contestants being allowed on the UK version and doing quite well from the beginning (runner up series 1 and 4, winner series 2) I don't think anyone ever saw the need for an Irish version.

Its too expensive I reckon with 24/7 crews required. Also there would be an issue with mutual friends but Denmark had one so I'm sure a similar issue would occur there. New Zealand often adopts foreign formats but like Ireland it never did BB probably for a similar reason as a lot of Kiwis have mutual friends with one another.

I'd like if they did one based on the US format (I'd kill to get on it) but the problem would be traditional BB UK viewers wouldn't like it and it wouldn't gain any new audience due to snobbery so it would never happen. Also with no phone in voting the US version isn't money making. If they did it based on the UK (traditional) format it would likely suck.

One of our national broadcasters would need to pay for the rights from Endomol (I think thats them). Way too much to be recoupled from an Irish audience.

TV3 did pay Mark Burnett Productions for The Apprentice and I doubt that was cheap. I'd of rather they done Survivor but I appreciated TV3 making the effort.

And even if they got Endemol to give them the rights cheaply, the production costs would be enormous. Big Brother would require a custom built house, serious technology and 24 hour production staff, camera operators etc.

Some formats transfer better to smaller markets than others. For example, TV3 did a good job in getting The Apprentice on air cheaply and were rewarded with large audiences.

Ireland does have a big brother programme, it's called the Front Window, reality tv at it's finest!

It would be too expensive to produce.

The security bill alone would be huge.
