Random packet loss

I'm getting a consistent level of packet loss at certain times of the day quite frequently. It don't appear correlated with any of my internet usage (it can happen while I'm doing nothing), and it doesn't tend to happen at the same times either.

Anyone ideas of what might cause it?
There are other people using the same connection, but it doesn't appear typical of p2p.

The packet loss can interrupt streaming (youtube), and if I happen to try and load a webpage it will time out.

The first image is of a ping to google without issue. The second is the same type of ping to google, but this the packet loss.

Contention on your providers network (ie your neighbours torrenting like mad). Usually experienced at peak times.

Dropped pings are not always indicative of packet loss. Dropping or deprioritizing ICMP is pretty common in response to various conditions.

I have some packet loss as well but that's because I have a microwave link, during fog etc. it can lose packets but it's not really a concern unless I am using the VoIP

Do you know where the packets are being lost, I mean have you checked your router?

One thing that I know causes it - you might need to check link speed and duplex,
On the m/w link I have I can only set it to 100 meg and 1/2 duplex otherwise the packet loss is too great
