I usually just get the book & page number from Familysearch and get the cert in the GRO, but now I have come across a 'GS film number', Surely not for the GRO then? NLI perhaps? or NAI? Any help appreciated please.

The Film and Image codes are FamilySearch/LDS references. You can usually order copies of these to one of their FamilyHistory centres

Depends on which of the collections you found the reference as to what the films will show - some are of civil BMD records, others are of church records, and some are of the Civil BMD Index books etc

Are you saying that the Family History centres the only place to get them then? From other threads here I believe people have found it hard to get into those centres.

Besides the GRO, yeah, the LDS centers are the only place to get them AFAIK.

I've not had any problems with getting records in FS centers. Just book them online and they'll send you an e-mail when they're there.
