    Hi guys
Running half marathon this coming Monday. Am fairly fit (hoping for 1:30) my query / problem is I'm also involved with a rowing club ( fixed seat) and am rowing a regatta that day also. Muscles used for running are obviously mainly leg but for rowing its mainly upper body and core but also some leg. What would people recommend for recovery. The regatta will take place around 5 hours after run and race lasts for around 20 mins. Will I be better to take recovery supplements mixed with plenty of food, If so what would ya recommend.

    Thank you

    Sounds like a busy day!

One thing jumped out at me though and I fear I've been rowing wrong as it's my legs that are doing my work in the boat.

    Best of luck with everything!

Yes trist your legs do some work. In say Olympic style rowing boats your legs are your main stroke driver but for fixed seat rowing its mainly upper body but you also push with legs but just not as much. I fear I'm biting off more than I can chew as we have been winning the rowing races up to now but I'm eager to complete both and the challenge excites me, that's why I'm enquiring about the best way to return to my peak.

Biggest challenge will probably be energy levels. Eat well, hydrate well and hope for the best. I'd often go rock climbing a few hours after a race or hard session, (which also uses a different set of muscles), but I wouldn't be competing. Leg muscles would be very sore/tired, so I would take things easy. I'm guessing that you won't have that luxury. I think it's probably fair to say that you won't be able to give 100% in both events, so I'd choose whichever is most important to you, and be prepared to sacrifice a little, in order to give the preferred event your best.

Could you throw yourself into an ice bath straight after the race maybe?
