Best way to stop squeaky stairs?

Getting new carpet, so decided to look into stop the squeak whilst the (old) carpet is up. Seems screwing the top edge and back edge of the stairs, as well as screwing a block of wood to the back of the stairs, with some self expanding glue.

Would this be the best option, or has anyone else had success another way?

I;ve heard PVA glue can stop squeaky floorboards, but its probably not that permanent a solution?

Can you get at the back of the stairs where the wedges are?

The wedges being the triangular bits?

I'll probably add screws to the top as well, or would that be needed?

Do it. Just watch the screw length.
