However Three can't ever make profit at their prices for data. Voice costs the operator about 150 times less and subsidises data. Data prices are actually below cost and voice prices a rip off. Three doesn't have enough voice contracts or PAYAG.

Mobile networks are more expensive to run and very low capacity compared to fixed networks. This is why they can't ever be a Broadband replacement, but a complement to Broadband on the move, on the go. Clue is in the name.

A high proportion of voice data can be terminated on their own networks, also outgoing call termination charges may be similar to incoming termination charges. But for Data, virtually 100% of upload & download is outside their network, they host nothing. The mobile operator has to pay for EVERY byte of data leaving or entering their Mobile network. €20 of Data on Three is 150 to 300 times the number of bytes as €20 worth of Voice Minutes & SMS.

SMS of course costs nearly nothing. Obscene profits on it.
