Hi as many would know the leaving certificate result will be out in 2 weeks time. I have repeated and i strongly feel that i wont get the points for pharmacy. I have asked several colleges and they said that there is no fetac courses link with pharmacy. It is daunting going back again and sitting the leaving cert the 2nd time and i dont wanna go back again to school. My question is, is there another way of repeating the LC without going back to school?? If i make sense?

If you are disciplined study from home and apply as an external candidate to sit in for the Orals and the mocks.

Is there no other route into pharmacy?

Perhaps do science and find a way in as a postgraduate?

    Or apply in the UK?

The points system is an extremely crude system for selecting people for courses. In the UK they would be more interested in how good you were at science for a science course.

The CAO can manage to exclude someone with an A1 in physics, chemistry and maths from doing science because they're not great at at French and Irish.

Why doesnt you daughter apply to universities in mainland Europe. The netherlands does most courses through English and its far easier to get into than the UK or Ireland. Can she speak German? A lot of eastern European universities do Medicine and probably pharmacy through German.

Same would apply in Belgium too for some courses.

The cost of living for students there is also way, way less than Ireland and Britain because they've good quality cheap accommodation.

While you're repeating the LC though you could have been a full year or two into a genuinely useful undergraduate science programme!

You might even find you are interested in some other science areas. Remember a lot of drug development is done by phd chemists, biologists and bio technologists all of whom do science to start.

Yeah you can repeat outside of school. But where you would have to pay 106 to repeat in school its 301. Though if you have a medical card it dont matter. Thinking im gonna have to repeat too, was considering at home repeat, cuz my school has no repeat program other than just sitting in a room unsupervised..not very productive, I have no self motivation though so at home is prob worse. Other than the fees i dont have much other info, sorry! Hope you get your point to avoid this craic altogether! :)
