    Hi folks,
I'm thinking of installing a centralised audio system in my house, to have zones for bathrooms, kitchen etc. maybe a total of 5~ zones.
I'm fine with running cable, be it audio cable or just CAT5e/6 if needed.

Has anyone installed such a system before? Recommendations?

    Cheers

Thereare a number of different things you could do here. If money is not an issue then 5 sonos zp120s connected to aNAS with your music collection and to the net is the easiest method. This gives 5 independent zones that can easily be grouped together for music through out the house or common areas. Just hook your speakers for each zone to each Sonos device.

If independent zones is not important then you can simply connect your sources to an amp with multiple speaker outputs, but controlling this can be more cumbersome although it will achieve what you are looking for.

There are loads of threads on AV forums with different hardware solutions for this.
