The Wildcard - When do you plan on using it?

With Chelsea and Villa having a double gameweek (DGW) in the first week many are claiming that it copperfasten's their decision to use their Wildcard after GW3 which coincides with an international break and the closure of the transfer window.

I have ended up using my wildcard early in other years as my team was a mess but in an ideal world if I picked a good early team I'd rather hold onto it until I was up the creek without a paddle.

However with the money to be made by taking advantage of prices rises I may have to follow like a sheep if others were to do it.

So basically when do ye plan on wildcarding and why?

After GW3.

Gonna take a punt on the DGW. Gonna have to tidy up my team (and probably get in RVP) after GW 3.

Will set up team for the first 3 games (hence no RVP) and then WC once transfer window is closed.

I'll use it when things go bad. I think my team will survive past GW3 by just use single transfers as needed to offload both Lukaku, Hazard and Cech as needed for their GW3 blank.

I plan to use it in second international break usually about 5/6 weeks in, havent checked it this year.

But believe for catching price rises I will prob use it early, but see what happens

I'm planning on building a team that will last me, with a plan to ditch Chelsea players after GW1 and probably GW2, but if there are more than 2 players on my team that for whatever reason don't start, AND there are some players like The Wolf, Negredo etc that I DON'T have that are looking like must haves (example: Michu last season) then I won't hesitate to WC early.

Week 4 or 5 unless things are going brilliantly. Late enough to see who the good players are going to be, early enough so that they don't cost too much.

Basically, use it before you **** your season up, not after.

Use it when you realise your team is ****. Last year I used mine midway through the first Sunday of the season. I finished 549th.

The January wildcard and the ability to save transfers for a week makes any strategising about when to play your wildcard somewhat redundant IMO.

Keep it for as long as possible, there are huge weeks in the latter stages but if it's going pear shaped at an early stage then obviously a decision has to be made. If you do it the same time as everyone else the results will be smaller, however if you find a time when you think that there's a big opportunity then go for it.

I'm going to try get to January without using it this year but I say that every year and the latest I've made is week 8

About gw 3 so after the transfer window ends or around December really depends on how my team is doing

In the unlikely event that my team starts well I will hold off using it for as long as possible.

If Bale stays there will be a time in the first part of the season when you have to have him and RVP on the team and fit in other players around them, to get both it would need a bit of a shuffle so going to hang on and see what happens, there are so many strikers who could be on fire or sitting on bench and then there is will Rooney go to Chelsea.

Will see how I am going early on and if things aren't going well will use if not will hang on.

I used to always play it at the international break after GW3. I will use it early if my team performs poorly.

Other than that, I'll hold onto it as long as I can.

I think I'll be taking more points hits this year too. The ones I took last year generally worked and, more often than not, when I thought about a hit and didn't take it, I was left rueing my indecision.

The king of hits FutureGuy has shown that they can work.

I've been think about this a lot today. I'm leaning towards going with GW3 and hence loading my team with the first few fixtures in mind.

Can't quite think of a more effective time to be using it than GW1 or GW3. For what it's worth, I've never wildcarded that early before.

you make so much money if you play it correctly because all the casual fans are going nuts on bandwagons, and you still have another WC in the New Year.

I'm thinking after GW1. Normally would aim to use it after GW3, but I'll be in Thailand on holidays so feel I might not get the best out of it during that time! Guy who won it last year did it after GW1 so hopefully its not too reckless an idea!

had a bad day myself 4 pt hit if needed and hold off till gw 4.Some weeks just dont work out its harder to take when its the first wk though

yeah looking at my team, i should be able to scrape through with a 4 point hit this week and maybe another 4 point hit for gw3.
i don't generally like hits but this early in the season i just need to get my team in order. i don't mind the morrison one, i knew that was a gamble, but cueller was never once in my team until yesterday, i just seen him in FFS predicted line up and threw him in at the expense of coleman to upgrade mirallas to oscar.
i thought cuellar was first choice, ah well.
koscielny was just unlucky. couldn't predict that.

Wildcard deployed as planned, brought in the big performers in anticipation of price increases.

Decided pretty early I was using the WC after gw1 so I now have to go look at fixtures and pick a real team!

52pts from 7 today with Dzeko & 3 Chelsea (x2) and 3 Villa to play

As late as possible for me, plan over next two weeks is terry out for a 4.5 defender saving me 1.5, using that 1.5 and the 3m in the bank will bring in RVP for gameweek 3 it'll be good to have him for weeks when the captain choice is tough.
