Hi folks, I've been having problems lately with bites while playing golf. I had two different sprays but neither done the job. I ended up missing work with an infection off one of them. So just wondering if people know what the best sprays are. I've clearly got allergies to bites and wasp stings and prevention is better than cure so and advice gladly accepted.

Great idea for a thread. Little Basterds put me off when I'm putting all the time. Haven't tried any sprays yet but will watch this with interest!!

That's not being smart, gel, deodorant, after shave etc attracts the little buggers like mad.

    I do

Try not using it on a hot day and see if they stay away.
    They did for me.
I figured it was the only difference between me and my playing partners.

And yes, I do shower daily ;-)

theres a product the armed forces swear by in the UK - its an Avon moisturiser spray with citronella in it. I have a bottle for the garden when the midges come out - ill post a picture later when i can find it.
As far as i know you need a UK postal adress or Northern irish address to receive it as the Avon website wont send to ROI. Not sure though!!
My sister got it for me through a friend in the north.

Citronella is the stuff alright. An acquaintance of mine who serves in the Irish army and plays golf comes back with bag loads of the stuff when he gets shipped off to Africa for tours and stuff.

Aswell as the above, I also find that tea tree oil does the trick. You can buy it for less than 5 euros in most chemists or health shops and just dab it on your collar, your hat and your wrists and it keeps the little bleeders at bay.

    +1

Used it myself and very effective. When I ordered it, they shipped from the UK to Ireland, but I think there was a minimum order value.

As Rickylovesuall says - Citronella is the best one. Tried most of them and sometimes those buggres won't be put off. Blood simply too tasty

One of the biggest sellers.for keeping bugs away is a product called "Deet". This is sold in chemists but can be a little bit expensive.

Last year Lidl had it for €3.99 (I think) and I'm down to the last bottle. It does work.

Hope they get it in soon.

True. Anything that has Deet in it is supposed to be tops. I bought a Boots repellent last year with, I think 50% Deet in it. Seemed to work, but the smell is horrendous, it'd work as a human repellent, never mind insects !!
