    Hey Everyone

So I was looking to book some tickets to Madrid for the 14th - 28th of August.

I looked on Ryanair's site 6 days ago and the return flight for 6 was 620 euro.
Unfortunately I had not been paid so I didnt have the cash.

I check again today and they are gone up to 1460 return.

Surely this is a scam? Is there anything I can do?

When do they have sales? Will I get a last minute booking?

    Thanks

Nothing of note here, somebody else with a greater sense of urgency bought the cheaper seats. Early bird and all that.

You're being punished for basically not making your mind up in time. There is no scam, I don't see how you think there could have been.

Yup plus weathers gone tits up so ryanair know people will be getting out of country on holidays so prices go up

Its not that I could not make my mind up, We just had not got the money 6 days ago. But for the tickets to go up by 1000 euro is a disgrace.

Someone advised me that ryanair have sales every week and I am wondering if the prices will drop again if all the seats dont sell?

Is there a way of checking how many seats are left on a flight.

Sorry to hear prices have gone up so much - seems mad . Is there a festival or something on in Madrid ?

There is normally a number in red telling you when there are only a few seats left. Reading this thread made me book a flight . I was undecided about going to Barcelona at the end of August but remebered seeing only 3 seats on the flights I wanted left last time I looked . Breathing a sigh of relief as got return tickets for €156 a piece including Baggae and fess etc

    Dak

    PS : Flights on Saturdays are always dearer . Going 15th to 29th shows as €1049 ( 2 A + 4C ) now if thats any use !

So im on the site now and I'm looking at booking me bringing two kids and then separately my wife booking with two.

It states that there is 4 seats left returning at 48 euro a seat.

If I book the 6 seats returning are they bringing in another plane and therfore charging more for a seat? 180 euro or something like that..

Does it say 4 seats left on the plane or 4 seats at that particular fare ? Last 2 fares could be at full prices !

Its the last number of seats left before the price changes

Don't fly with Ryanair if possible.. They are a rubbish airline and generally other rival airlines will offer a similar or slightly more expensive ticket to a better airport. I recently flew Ryanair, Air Lingus and EasyJet and compared to EasyJet and Air Lingus Ryanair was a joke.. Staff that were scruffy and unprofessional, Dirty plane, un-necessary chaos before take-off as passengers scrambled to find seats and a place for bags. I even witnessed an air hostess pack in a suitcase violently to try get the luggage door closed.

Ryanair are a terrible airline and take into account the bus/rail/taxi costs getting to/from the little airport they will fly into over a bigger airport.

    Hassle!

    Nonsense.

In this specific example Ryanair and Aer Lingus use the same airport. The Ryanair fleet is, to the most part, newer than any other airline in Europe.

I could regail you with tales of delayed flights caused by passengers on Aer Lingus flights where their bags had to go into the hold and the arguments which ensued, something which has never happened to any Ryanair flights I've been on.

I'm no Ryanair apologist - I just take whichever is offering the best value or options to the destinations I go to. In my experience, the key difference is the colour schemes.

So I checked skyscanner and for dates that I could fly, 13th - 27th its first shows up just over 800 but then jumps to 1077..

    Bit weird

How was my post NONSENSE? I didn't make one thing up as it's as valid as your post!

In that particular instance Ryanair fly into the same airport as the next carrier but that doesn't mean the rest of Ryanair flight fly into the main airports which are located for convenience in the first place i.e close or in the city. I remember a trip a year ago to Paris and Beauvais is 75-90 min away depending on traffic and the airport itself was worse than you would imagine.

Ryanair might have some of the most modern planes in Europe but not in the instances I have been on an I have previously flown with Ryanair numerous times in the past and not once was the plane either clean or better than any other airline I have flown. A new plane doesn't mean it is ok to have a dirty plane! in fact the other two flights on the trip were basically new planes and the price wasn't far ahead in fact behind Ryanair prices for one of the tickets!

My point being you can get far better value and quality for the same price give or take!

I sense great exaggeration in your post. Scruffy? Chaos? Scrambles? Violence?

I've flown into Beauvais a few times and know what it's like. But for what I paid, it was a minor inconvenience.

Destinations I regularly travel to are London, Birmingham, Nice, Malaga and Karlsruhe. For all but the last, EI and FR fly to the same airports and FR are usually cheaper, for Karlsruhe there is little difference between flying into Frankfurt or Hahn in terms of time to final destination as I always hire a car, but the time saved in negotiating the much smaller terminal at Hahn is great.

As for cleanliness, I can't say I've noticed any difference. You'll often see a bit of littler on the floor that's been missed due to the rush to meet the turnaround time - this applies to both airlines.

my only though is how CHEAP it was when you looked first considering its at the heigh of holiday season!
100return "to the sun" was a bargain - and less than half the price of what you'd pay to go to a resort

If you only really want to get away somewhere nice, then maybe look into driving to the continent.
You could get to France for about 200euro each way for a car and all passengers (plus fuel) if you avoided weekends using a landbridge ticket, i.e. combi ticket for Rosslare/ Dublin to GB and then England - France.

The major advantage then is that you have all the luggage you want with you for free plus you have the advantage of having a car without paying through the nose for a hire car, which for a van is a stupid cost in summer.

The €1460 price for 6 people, while a chunk of dosh, isn't that bad IMO for a flight 3/4 weeks before travel in the height of the holiday season, 4 of us and we usually pay 800 - 900 for flights to the continent in July / Aug

You just missed out, if you had a credit card, all would be well, put it down to experience or leave the kids with their favourite relative :)

    ^+1

You leave it to the last minute to book to a destination that is going to be popular in the height of the season and you think its some kind of scam that the prices have risen the closer it gets to the departure date?

Have you ever booked flight before? If you want to go then suck it up and pay it and be a bit more organised next time.

Of course I have booked flights before. Madrid is in the middle of Spain, everyone leaves to go to the coast at peak times.. My issue is now thy Ryanair know that I'm interested they have nearly trembled the price.. 1580 for flights... They have now lost my business because I am booking with airlingus.. How can Ryanair do this kind of thing is what I don't understand! There the cheapest carrier in Europe when it suits them...

I don't think they care, to be honest. The fare today is €1,989.24 excl luggage.

If you change your travel dates by one day earlier the price for 2 adults & 4 kids excluding bags is €662.76

Sorry but what has people in Madrid going to the coast in August have to do with flights from Dublin to Madrid?

You saw a price you liked, because you didn't have a credit card or funds available you couldn't buy the tickets at that time. Now you've found more expensive tickets with Aer Lingus and paid for them as the Ryanair price has gone up more, I'm really struggling to see what your problem with Ryanair is. Their prices change based on demand, you missed out on a good price that they were willing to charge you and you messed up, tough!
