Here you will find a refuge for vermouth drinkers.

This thread will no doubt drop like a stone but I was wondering if there are any vermouth fans on Boards.

In Spain lots of older people, often wearing suits, go for an early afternoon vermouth at the weekends. It's quite the pastime.

Personally I enjoy red vermouths. I often find the white varieties too sweet, although a nice dry one can be good.

Yzaguirre is a personal favourite. It's much more bitter than Martini Rosso, which I find has an after taste a bit like boiled vegetables.

Can anyone recommend anything else that I should try?

Would the likes of Devenney's or Redmond's stock a decent variety?

Try out the Martini Fiero, its flavored with blood orange and makes for a lovely aperitif

Ah I love Spanish vermouth. It's lovely. I drank it in Madrid in the bars like you say as an aperitif. It's cool over there how its on tap even!

Is there a Spanish style vermouth easily available over here?

I must take a look at that!

I've also tried Miró, which has a very distinct taste of clove. I believe they make a lot of unbranded stuff for supermarkets as well.

I'll add a go-to drink of mine here.

    The Americano
    Red Vermouth
    Campari
    Soda
    Ice
    Old fashioned glass

There's a bar I go to in Valladolid with a gravity cask/barrel of what I think is Miró. It's great.

I actually haven't looked for Spanish vermouth in Ireland. I normally drink beer over here.

A trip to the off-license awaits.

I was in a cocktail bar in Manhattan and I asked for a Manhattan(the best cocktail ever!) and he put no red vermouth in it.

    Recipe for an epic Manhattan:
Makes 3. One for you, one for your partner, one to share as a second round.
Get a cocktail glass. I like the v-shaped ones. Put a glass of red vermouth, white vermouth and decent bourbon into a mixer. Add a cherry to each glass and pour a teaspoon of cherry juice into the mixer. Put ice into each glass, shake and pour.

On the bourbon, it should be decent bourbon, not JD. Lidls own brand Kentucky Jack Bourbon will do in a pinch. If you put scotch in it, its not a Manhattan its a Rob Roy.
