Surround sound HDMI Arc Problem

I've just bought a new home theatre system, a Panasonic SCXH70EBK which supports HDMI Arc, the tv I have is a LG 32LS3500 which has two HDMI v1.4 ports and I have a HDMI v1.4 cable running between them.

However I can't seem to get the sound working through the surround sound at all, does anyone have any ideas?

How is the TV signal connected? I'd connect the Sky/UPC box to the CBL/SAT HDMI port on the amp and let the amp feed the video to the TV in which case you don't need ARC at all.

    Run everything through the amp.

    Run everything through the amp.

The amp only has one HDMI Arc port which is connected to the tv, the sky is connected to the other HDMI port on the tv and from what I understand of Arc is that the sky sound should play through the surround sound when the input is set to Arc.

Edit: Or do you mean connect sky straight to the hdmi port on the amp and it will play through that?

I'd only rely on ARC where the TV is the original source of the audio signal such as where you have a TV aerial connected to the TV for Saorview or the UK channels received from a terrestrial transmitter. If you have Sky or UPC then connect that box straight to the amp and you'll get your surround sound without needing ARC.

    Yes, as I recommended above.....

If you don't have more HDMI input ports on the amp then you will need to use ARC in which case you may need to activate it via the TV menus.

Probably a bit late but anyway here goes ...

The ARC funtion's main purpose is to send the audio " Downstream" over HDMI from the TV's internal tuner to the amp the TV is connected too.

Very few TV's will also route other HDMI connected device's audio through the ARC HDMI port , that is a rare function indeed and only available on a very few , and usually much more expensive , TV's.

Both TV and the amp its connected too must support the ARC function , usually if a device supports the ARC function then the relevant HDMI input is labelled as such.

ARC is an optional function of the HDMI 1.4 specification , that refers to the electronics within devices only !

Those HDMI 1.x numbers do not refer to HDMI cables.
Anytime you see those numbers on a HDMI cable it is purely a marketing ploy , and its against the rules of HDMI.org , who license the HDMI logo !

The Bad news , Your TV does not support the ARC function.
