Thanks for that! I found one in m and s as well so I think they are easier to find than I thought. Hopefully there'll be one in a Next/M and S so I can see it in person. Not sure on the size of them from the websites.

There was a lovely one in Dunnes a few months ago, I think the dome was Perspex rather than glass but Dunnes might be worth a look

Sometimes you'll find stuff in TK Maxx as well

Thanks all, it's actually a joint gift so we have a fair amount to spend on it - looking on the higher end if things if we can

I prefer that ikea one to the next one myself... Bit more feminine I think.

Anyway, upmarket a small bit.... House of fraser do a range of fairly snazzy glass cake stands.

They have a shop in dundrum I think?

I have a lovely beaded one from laura ashley home, but it's from about a decade ago.

    Meadows and byrne do some.

If you want to go traditional (and have the budget!), waterford crystal do absolutely gorgeous cake stands. They don't have a dome, but in my experience the domes are fragile and awkard to store anyway. How long is a cake really going to last anyway, right? :) Get a nice cake server and knife as well, and that's a beautiful gift.
