Getting father on birth cert while not in country

Hi my friend has recently had a baby and is worried about how she should apply for her childs birth cert!

The father of the child is not in the country and won't be for at least 3 months yet, they are both Irish, he is just working abroad in Canada, they are not married and are not in a relationship but are both happy for both of them to be on the certificate!

How can she get his name on the cert while he is away, is it just a matter of him signing some kind of an affidavit in Canada and sending it home or what happens.

I know the law has changed or is changing where father has to be put on birth cert or otherwise you have to go before a judge to swear the father is unknown but what happens in this scenario?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

The father will have to be there in person because its a digital signature.when he gets back you just go and reregister the birth it's no big deal I had to do it too and it doesn't cost anything

Thanks Irish25! just off phone to registrar of births and deaths and confirmed exactly what you said, there is a way to get him on it while away but it involves him signing a declaration in front of a solicitor in Canada and sending it home but she said it is very slow process and usually forms are completed wrong so alot of sending and receiving the same document until its right! Re-registering seems alot more straight forward, she said it takes a little time to re-register but at least the baby is registered in the mean time!

That's good.yeah no problems with re registering we just made an appointment for when the person who had to sign it was there, filled out the form and we had it right there only took about 10 min.

Good luck with it and your new baby
