Has anyone got a (bricks&morter - Dublin) source for UNC bolts? I'm trying out a couple of home made bodge projects with the camera/tripod/focus rail etc., but when the majority of bolts required are imperial UNC sizes (1/4, 5/16, 7/16).
I've searched my workshop shed from top to bottom but all I'm finding are metric UNF's.
Both online and the few bolt suppliers I've contacted here only sell in bulk.

Does anyone have nearby one of those rare but wonderful hardware shops that stock bits and pieces dating back to the building of the Ark?

Or, does anyone have any broken tripods taking up space that they would like rid of that I could strip for parts?

Hah, if you find some retail place anywhere that actually sells imperial sizes, or an online place that sells small quantities and has reasonable P&P let me know. I went around looking a few years back, came up blank.

These guys can supply pretty much anything along these lines, in quantities of 1 and up:

do you know anyone with a metal lathe? i recently did a woodturning class, and the tutor made a lot of his own tools - and some screws - on a metal lathe.

Hand turning a thread on a lathe sounds like endless hours of fun. :) I've got dozens of dies for turning threads but again, all metric.
I'll have a look at https://www.namrick.co.uk/ later and see if they can sort me out.
If all else fails I'll have to chance re-tapping the existing threads to something metric.

EDIT: That Namric site is all I could ask for. Thanks.

Any reason you can't convert measurements to metric and save all the bother?

Standard size for camera tripod mounts is imperial 1/4-20 (1/4" diameter, 20 threads per inch) so if you're messing around with mounts and the like you need screws & bolts of the appropriate size.

    Have you tried Radionics?

    http://radionics.rs-online.com/web/c/?sra=oss&r=t&searchTerm=Unc+bolts&x=37&y=16

They used to be strictly trade, but I think they are more open to general orders now, they have a trade counter in Dublin.
