I am considering getting one of these bikes to use for training when the weather is bad. It has a basic shimano sora groupset and standard wheels but I was wondering would it be difficult to upgrade it to say at least 105 and perhaps better wheels such as the Mavic Elites ina bout a years time and how much overall would it cost to do this. Also has anyone else haveexperience of this bike and if so what do you you think of the frame. As I said it would just be used for the odd commute and training spins of no more then 80-90 km.

Not sure if you have already invested - I have this bike for almost a year now, notched up 4k km. I bought this as my "entry level" as I was getting back into cycling. Since March I regularly do 100 k+ spins on the weekends, did the W200 course, the week before the event, did the W100 on the day, also have done the SKT160k route a couple of weeks back so the bike is sound in these kinds of leisure cycles. I have not been forced to change any parts through malfunction, though I put an 11-28 cassette on to help with the psychology of the hills! I have replaced tyres, one front derailleur cable, and am about to get a new chain.

Pros: Frame is great, ride is nimble, bike looks good (IMO) and has been very reliable so far. As a former "steel worker" I am very impressed with the seamless quality of the tube joins - it really adds to the aesthetic.
Cons: Groupset is really not the best - I had a problem with the front derailleur "sticking" on the big ring when I first got it which led to the cable change as I loosened it too many times to try to fix and shredded it. I fixed this by soaking the new cable in lubricant overnight before fitting again and have not had that problem since (this is apparently a common Sora issue and I found that fix online somewhere). Rear mech is fine, I have had no problems at all with that.

I had a similar thought to upgrading wheels and groupset to 105 but I may just hang in for another year and upgrade to a new bike, which was my promise to myself if I kept it up for two years and put in the kms! On my experience with this bike, upgrading to another in the Boardman range would be definitely a consideration.
