Nope, should be grand regarding the timing chain.

The M47 has it's own problems but nowhere near as bad as the timing chain issues on the N47 engine and can easily be avoided with preventative maintenance:

Manifold swirl flaps - these have a habit of breaking off and getting ingested into the engine killing it. So have them removed and replaced with blanks, not an expensive job.

Turbo breather filter - this filter is shaped like a toilet role and has a tendency to get blocked which will result in the turbo getting starved of oil which will in turn blow the turbo and possibly worse. There is a redesigned vortex shaped filter and housing which costs about €80 from a dealer which will help prevent a blockage. It is still advised though to change this filter every second or third service to prevent blocking.

BTW 60k miles on a 6 year old diesel is very low, make sure it has a service history to back that up. The mileage will be stored on the dashboard, car's ECU and key.

Can't emphasize this enough. I'd go as far as to assume it was clocked until it's absolutely proved otherwise.

You'd be surprised how many city dwellers bought 520Ds just for the image and being clueless about diesel and mileage etc..

Looking for something similar myself, do you mind me asking what the asking price is? You got a link?

2008 or later perhaps. For low motor tax.

Being the only 2.0 litre 5 series until last year, and the cheapest 5 series since its introduction in late 2005, the vast majority of 5 series since then are 520ds, they still had cheaper tax than a 523i before the VRT changes (the 523i was a 2.5). I seem to remember that 523i was about €5,000 more expensive than the 520d as well when new. So, the low mileage shouldn't be any indication of clocking at all, though it is of course good practice to get any car checked for mileage.
