Been looking at an 08 1.9cdti Vectra on the net, has anyone any experience with them? You do seem to get quite a big of car for very reasonable money hence has me thinking maybe they are best avoided.

The only redeeming feature of that model Vectra was the 1.9 CDTi engines which were made by Fiat and one of the best diesel engines in it's day. They are not a bad car, it's just that they don't do anything particularly great either. Very plain really is probably the only complaint and generally unloved hence the low resale values, even Opel changed the name on the Insignia to emphasis how different it was to the Vectra.

    Hi thanks for the info...

Are there any common faults with them? Do they have a dpf?

The car im looking at has 50k and full test on it

Is it a 5 speed 120bhp or 6 speed 150bhp version? The 120bhp version tends to be more reliable. The 150bhp version can suffer from swirl flap issues and definitely has a DPF. Don't think the 120bhp has a DPF. 50k miles is very low for a 5 year old diesel Vectra, does it have a service history as Vectras were very popular as rep mobile mile munchers.

Yeah its the 120bhp model, says it comes with part service history, its described as immaculate in and out might go view it tomorrow, I did think the miles were quite low but when im looking at it I can do some investigating then

My parents had one for 5 years. 120bhp 6 speed. Put up 130,000km. And i had it for 6 months. Never a moments trouble ever. It was well capable of overtaking cars. I liked it. I don't know what spec it was but it was comfortable. Half leather seats and CC, AC and a big boot.

TBH all the added gizmo's dont really entertain me, although AC I think comes on all models which is nice and I suppose CC would be a decent addition with the motorway miles I do, just want something reliable and a big boot is a must, I try and do all my own maintenance and will be giving the car the complete once over before parting any cash, even if a service has just been done I just for peace of mind I would change oil+filter same with diesel+filter etc

To you guys who have owned one is there anything I should be looking for especially?

    Cheers

I had to get new gearstick cables/wires (?) because it became uncomfortable/annoyingly hard to put the car into certain gears. Car would give a lovely grinding noise when the gear wasn't fully engaged. And moving the gearstick was stupidly hard compared to every other car I've driven. After that the gearstick was fine and loose. Take it for a test drive, getting 5ft gear was a right booger for me sometimes before it was fixed.
