    Sorry if in wrong forum.....

Receiving saorview through television but reception is catastrophic - screen keeps scrambling. Is it just, the "hot weather" excuse or is everyones saorview experience just as bad.

More than likely your aerial isn't up to the job or there's a fault somewhere.

Are you using an indoor 'set-top' type aerial?

no, its a fairly newish, 2 year old tv with mpeg 4, which I believe provides me with saorview, no indoor aerial

You must have an aerial of some kind. What is plugged into the 'aerial/antenna/RF-in' socket on the back of the tv?

I'm experiencing the same thing. I also thought it was the good weather..
Antenna picks up Channel 52 on UHF with 100% signal quality and signal level about 60%.. I can get the Irish channels perfectly. However, the UK free to air listings are not coming in. I double checked the antenna alignment just to be sure. Any ideas?

Just looked through related issues. Must be high pressure.. I'm happy to leave it for a while...

    RTÉNL Technical Information
    Service Notification:
    RTÉNL - Service advisory

A period of stable high pressure may cause interference to SaorView signals over the coming days, this will pass, do not adjust your receive equipment.

RTÉNL apologise for any disruption experienced due to the enhanced atmospheric conditions.

The UK channels are nothing to do with Saorview. Also, the 'period of settled high pressure' is long gone.

What part of the country are you in?

If there is nothing at all in the aerial socket, it's no wonder reception is "catastrophic". I seem to recall a mention of a tv in a pub near one of the NI main transmitters apparently working perfectly in this manner but I've never seen an example myself.

    Thanks Peter,
Location is Drogheda.. I know UK channels are nothing to do with Saorview, I was making the point that I had UK channels on that box which offers FTA channels and all of a sudden, I don't have those channels..

Thread title is 'Very Poor Saorview Reception'.

'FTA' in these forums, is generally taken as referring to free-to-air satellite channels, with the UK terrestrial service being referred to by its name, Freeview.

You say you 'double checked the antenna alignment': do you have a separate aerial for reception of Freeview, along with the one for Saorview?

I have one High Gain aerial which is mounted on the roof. Checking the alignment on the arial (checking the signal info on the setup function can assist) The frequency it is operating as is 722000.
The equipment used is a high gain arial -> Shielded satellite/TV cable Booster box -> soarview combi box (Soarview & freeview) box.
I was receiving some of the UK channels.. UTV, ITV1, ITV+1 BBC's, Channel 4 and about another 20 or so channels.
I originally had FTA set top box with a dish. Since there was adequate service coming through the combi soarview box, I removed the box.

'Combi' box as generally understood, is one receiver with terrestrial & satellite reception capability.

You are receiving Saorview from the Clermont Carn transmitter. A single aerial set up for that site will, in some areas also get a Freeview signal from the much lower powered Kilkeel transmitter in Co. Down.

If this Freeview signal was indeed long term reliable & then just suddenly & completely disappeared then, that might point to some fault with your system. Would I be right in thinking that it was actually just borderline & barely watchable?

Maybe, would be unable to advise further without knowing what your current aerial setup is. Might be advisable to get a professional in.
