Told today we have to work bank holiday monday

    So my workplace was meant to be closed monday but today they have decided to open it and rostered us on. They have told us they dont care about our plans and that we have to work.
    Is this allowed at such short notice, it seems quite unfair!

    Legally they can make you work the day but they must compensate you either by paying you double time, giving you an extra day of annual leave or a paid day off within one month of the bank holiday, look up the organisation of working time act 1997 for more info.

    And do they not have to give more notice than 6 days it jsut seems a bit unfair as I wont be around at all so Im going to be penalised now for not being there. They said they will a give day in leu to those who work but its not like anyone was offered we were just told!
