W124 300e gearbox replacement ?

Hey guys, Quick question, Have seen a minty W124 for sale, buy it seems the gearbox (auto) is shot.. Has all forward gears but no reverse.. 1992 with 225k kms Could one be swapped in from other models 200/260E etc... ?? A rebuild is $$$$

260E box or 300SE box will fit.

It's a common problem. A lot of the time you can drain the trans drop the sump and fit a new reverse band piston and spring and that cures it.

Parts are cheap and it's easy to do, you don't need to drop the valve body as the piston is under a cover on the side

Otherwise yes the trans will interchange with others of that era.
