Noisy timing chain in micra

    I've bought a car and been told the chain is noisy , is this a costly job?

    The chain itself would probably be more expensive than the labour.

    Probably as cheap to get another engine, but I wouldnt do that until it blows which it might not for a long time.

    Its an 01 micra, paid 800 for it.
    I've to put it through the NCT end of August, but it rattles on the start up then seems fine. My father thinks its the chain and will eventually need to be changed. Was just wondering if anyone knew weather it was a big/costly job, or weather on not its going to go through the test now. :-( thanks.

    Personally I'd drive it till it breaks. Gf's micra got 3 years on a noisy chain and it was rust that killed it in the end,

    It all depends on how bad the rattle is. Most micras of that age are some bit noisy on start up but once warm they are fine.

    To prolong the chain's lifespan frequent oil changes is a must.
