Tyre selling age.

I don't know if it's something I heard somewhere, or even read somewhere on the interweb, but is there a maximum age that a tyre can be sold?
Be it car, truck, bus, bike, etc; I was always under the impression that tyres could not be sold if they are over 5 years old. Is this the case?
If it is the case, can anyone point me to a link that states this?
    Thanks.

Couldn't tell you if there's a law on it tbh but fooked if I would buy a 5 year old tyre that's gonna spend another couple of years trying to keep me outta the ditch!

I got 4 fail advisories when I got my car ncted last march ,and was told by the tester there was no need to change them as they were good tyres

There are no rules that I'm aware of on the sale of old tyres, but if they're over 6 years old you'll fail NCT.

According to pg. 63 of the NCT manual (http://www.ncts.ie/NCT%20Manual%20Revise%20May%202012.pdf) it's an advisory (I hadn't realised this category had been reinstated) rather than a complete failure.
