The timing belt slipped on it & the valves went so need a new engine my mechanic is telling me & he doing it for me with a 2nd hand engine with 30k miles on it for me for €750...

It's a 2004 Renault Scenic 1.4 with 110k miles on it with nct til next feb...

I was planning on selling it before this happened So my question is should I get it fixed and sell it on or try leave it the way it is & sell the way it is for obviously the much reduced price...

Looked at donedeal and other models similar are going for €2100-€2400... And if I didn't get it fixed how much could I expect to get for it the way it is & who could buy it off me the way it is?

The body etc is in great condition other than the engine haha

I would not be keen on buying a car that I couldn't drive unless it was for a couple of hundred euro

it will only be worth a couple of hundred not running. how much would it cost to repair your own engine?

Ifnyou can get verifiable history with the 30k one put that in. Just make sure the new engine gets a service and timing belt. (Alot less labour while its out)

Yea their is a cert I get with it... I can get the 110k mileage wiped from my car to make it 30k mileage as per the new engine but it will cost me a further €200...

Will it be worth getting done or would potential buyers be asking questions like how come mileage is so low on it??

Would it increase value by getting the new mileage sorted on it

regardless of the engine your car has done 110k. Suspension, brakes, gearbox.

No that mileage is with the car not the engine.

Thats disgraceful that anyone would offer to put back the mileage just cause the new engine has lower mileage.
What you should do is get the new engine with verified mileage. Record the engine change in the cars history stating that engine was changed at 110k miles for engine with 35k miles. Record full service on the engine at time of installation and them everyone will know where they stand as regards servicing of all aspects of the car.
Returning the mileage to 35k is just silly. It knocks the whole service history out and you wouldnt know where you stud re servicing.
You would devalue the car more by putting the mileage back imo.
When selling a car with a changed engine, you will want to be as clear as possible re the cars history, otherwise people will walk away. Selling a car with the clock showing 35k when its obviously done more and having a changed engine would to me suggest a mega mile car even if you tell a buyer the story of what happened.
